Maurizio Sarri’s plans for the game against West Ham on Sunday have suffered a setback after the team’s flight back to London on Thursday was cancelled due to bad weather.
According to Daily Mail, the Blues were forced to spend an extra night at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Thessaloniki following Chelsea’s 1-0 Europa League win over PAOK on Thursday.
The team returned to London on Friday afternoon, just 48 hours before Chelsea’s Premier League game against West Ham at the London Stadium.
The delay reportedly left Sarri frustrated as he had wanted the team back in London on Thursday to prepare for the game against West Ham on Sunday. The cancelled flight means the players will have limited time to recover after Thursday’s game against PAOK.
Willian, who scored the only goal of the game as Chelsea beat PAOK on Thursday, is expected to start on Sunday against West Ham.
Alvaro Morata started against PAOK but missed several chances to score. Sarri revealed after the game that the striker needs confidence and he is expected to be dropped for Olivier Giroud for the game against West Ham.
Chelsea have secured six successive victories under Sarri and the Blues will be hoping to make it seven on Sunday.
