Chelsea continued our unbeaten start to this campaign with a 3-0 win at Southampton. In-form Eden Hazard fired Chelsea ahead after 30 minutes before Ross Barkley doubled Chelsea’s lead in the second half.
Alvaro Morata made it 3-0 for Chelsea in injury time after replacing Olivier Giroud.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri was pleased with the team’s display in the 3-0 win over Southampton but insists Chelsea could control matches better and improve both defensively and offensively.
Asked if Chelsea played how he wanted against Southampton, Sarri said: “I think sometimes, not always.
“I think today we can do better, especially in the centre part of the second half. We have given them two or three opportunities.
“We need to be in control of the match, we can do better in the defensive phase and sometimes also in the offensive phase.
“Today we did wrong in two or three counter attacks, four against three, three against two. I think we have the possibility to do better.”
Despite Chelsea moving to the top of the league alongside Liverpool and Manchester City after the victory over Southampton, Sarri still insists Manchester City and Liverpool are still ahead of Chelsea.
Asked if Chelsea will stay at the top of the league, Sarri said: “It’s the same that I thought exactly one week ago and what I said.
“I think Manchester City and Liverpool are a step forward from us.
“We need to recover the gap. The gap last season was 30 points between City and Chelsea, now we are trying to cover the gap and we are working on that.
“I think it will be very difficult to cover so large a gap in one season.”
