3 REASONS I’D LIKE TO SEE WILLIAN BACK IN THE STARTING 11

For the first time since signing for Chelsea, our Brazilian winger Willian is on the fringe of the first team. It seems unimaginable that our PFA Player of the Year isn’t in the first 11, but then it’s justified — Pedro’s form hasn’t given Conte any choice.

It all started with the loss of his mum, and he was then given compassionate leave by the club to go back to Brazil. In his absence, Pedro (who has been average since signing for the club) has been excellent, and his combination with Eden Hazard and Diego Costa is commendable.

But, I’d still love to see Willian back in the squad, especially for the following reasons.

WILLIAN IS FIRE ON HIS DAY

On his day, everyone knows what Willian can do. His trickery, his pace, his workrate and his abilities during counterattacks is definitely outstanding, and we all saw him singlehandedly dismantle teams last season.

HIS UNDERSTANDING WITH HAZARD

Over the years, Willian has formed a formidable partnership with our golden boy, Eden Hazard. In our title-winning season especially, Willian built a good partnership with Hazard, and even their off-field relationship suggests that the pair are having a good time at Stamford Bridge. With the both of them together and in good form, Chelsea’s attack can bring down any defence.

HE WAS PHENOMENAL LAST SEASON

Willian was the neck, bone and shoulder of Chelsea last season. He didn’t just give his all for the club, he gave more. At a time when other players were below par, Willian was on fire; he worked hard for the team and wasn’t involved in any form of controversy. In fact, if we had another player like Willian, we would have made top four last season.

To crown it all, Willian proved his loyalty by signing a new contract with the club, when other top players were thinking of leaving.

Pedro deserves to be ahead of Willian on current form, but I’d love to see Willian in the starting 11 soon, and who knows he might do wonders in this new system.
