After former league leaders, Liverpool stuttered in their title challenge, as they drew against Southampton on Saturday, expectations were high, and all eyes were on Chelsea to take advantage of the situation and go top of the league table, and our boys did not disappoint.

Against a very dogged and dangerous Middlesborough side on Sunday, Chelsea proved exactly why they’re the league’s most in- form side as they edged out their opposition 0-1. It wasn’t an easy tie, but Chelsea’s superiority still told on the game eventually.

The last time Chelsea were top of the league table was in May 2015, when we finished winners of the league, and ever since, we have not felt what it is like to be top. Sunday’s win will be the first time we reclaim that spot in well over a year. You’d recall that we couldn’t do that last season because we finished 10th, but we’ve since put that disappointment behind us, and have put on some of the best displays of the league season so far.

What makes the present development even more interesting is that we’re in very fine form this time around, so I’m confident we’re not relinquishing our position soon. As Azpilicueta said after the game on Sunday, the top is exactly where we want to be. The boys are hungrier than ever, and that’s a big plus for our campaign. The last time Chelsea were this good, we won the league, so I’m hoping we achieve the same positive outcome this season. It’s still a long time out, but Sunday’s win is a major step towards repeating that feat.

What makes him perfect for this blog? He lives for Chelsea FC, in fact, I heard he sat in the middle of a road, and refused to go home after that bitter loss to Barcelona in 2009. Haha.
