Many Chelsea youngsters on loan also had a good weekend, just as Chelsea were trashing Everton comprehensively.

Christian Atsu fired an early opener as the Magpies defeated Cardiff City for their seventh straight victory. However Tammy Abraham endured a hard time as Bristol City lost 2-0 to Brighton.

Still in the Championship, Fulham continued their rise up the table with a 2-0 victory at Griffin Park in a west London derby against Brentford, with Tomas Kalas playing the full match and Lucas Piazon all but the final 19 minutes. Kasey Palmer played the first hour for Huddersfield in their 1-1 home draw with Birmingham City.

In the Dutch Eredivisie, Bertrand Traore enjoyed a return to form for Ajax. Having excelled with two assists in their 3-2 win over Celta Vigo in the Europa League on Thursday night, the forward found the back of the net himself in a 2-2 draw at AZ this weekend. He curled home a left-footed shot from the edge of the box, and it was a sublime finish.

Lewis Baker, Matt Miazga and Nathan were in the starting line-up for Vitesse on Sunday, but fell to a 2-1 home defeat against Heracles.

In Italy, AC Milan won 2-1 against Palermo and Mario Pasalic impressed in the hour he spent on the pitch and Jeremie Boga was a second-half substitute in Spain for bottom club Granada, who scored a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruna. Victorian Angban remained on the bench.

In the Bundesliga, Michael Hector was a late substitute for Eintracht Frankfurt, helping to see out a 1-0 victory over Cologne which draws them level on points with their sixth-place opponents. Baba Rahman came on for the final few minutes of Schalke’s 3-1 home win over Werder Bremen.

In Turkey, Kenneth Omeruo had the misfortune to score an own-goal but still finished on the winning side as Alanyaspor triumphed 4-3 over Gaziantepspor.
