During the weekend, our attention was focused on the derby game against Tottenham Hotspur, which we eventually won. However, the Chelsea development squad and the U18 squad also had good results on Saturday.
For the development squad, they had to show character to come back twice and earn a point away from home against the young Citizens.
Lukas Nmecha opened the lead for City with a deft finish on the stroke of half-time, but Ike Ugbo levelled the scoreline for Chelsea, just 3 minutes after the restart with an equally deft finish.
Half-time substitute Thierry Ambrose then restored City’s lead on the 64th minute,
With 13 minutes remaining, City were reduced to 10 men after Cameron Humphreys was given a second yellow card.
Chelsea took advantage of the 1 man deficit, and Mason Mount restored parity with just a minute left of normal time.
For the U18s, it was four wins in a row, as they won Fulham U18 side 2-0.
Despite Chelsea enjoying the majority of possession and the woodwork being rattled at both ends, the match was goalless until two late goals by Luke McCormick and Martell Taylor-Crossdale gave the Blues all three points.
Chelsea piled on the pressure to no avail, until Luke McCormick put the Blues ahead on the 85th minute.
Late in injury time, Taylor-Crossdale expertly scored from a penalty kick to make it 2-0 for the Blues.
