What a superb October the team had, with the look of champions in both results and performances. Indeed, manager Antonio Conte has surely found a system that works. Interestingly, he recorded a big win against José to cement his status among fans as the new special one. Despite our form and results, Conte also has to ponder on three issues that need to be resolved. Let’s look into them:

BACKUP OPTIONS FOR FIRST TEAM PLAYERS IN OUR NEW SYSTEM:

So far so good it’s been cosy and rosy for Chelsea. We have collected maximum 12 points from our last four games with no goal conceded. The team chemistry is mind-blowing as we’ve witnessed dazzling performances. Many players have taken to the new system and their new roles like duck to water. It is awesome.

But what then happens when key players get injured? Can Ola Aina or Branislav Ivanovic seamlessly provide adequate replacement for Victor Moses if he picks up an injury? The Nigerian international’s dynamism will sorely and surely be missed if his replacements are not up to the game. His deployment as right wingback has been an amazing revelation like his opposite wing-back, Marcos Alonso. More so, if any of Kante or Matic get injured can Mikel, Fabregas, Chalobah or Loftus-Cheek be able to deputise magnificently?. Conte needs to find solutions to personnel changes if circumstances persuade him to.

NEW SYSTEM IS EFFECTIVE BUT ANY PLAN B?

Change is the unchangeable law of progress and obviously we are much changed from last season. Evidently, we are the most improved and in-form side in the league. The new 3-4-3 system is powerful and we are blowing away teams with brawn and brain. The big question is: when teams find a way of stifling or playing against us then do we have a plan b that can help us to overcome them? When teams recognise our strengths and match them and also try to exploit our weaknesses, is there a different game plan or system that will enable us thwart and topple them? This is another issue for Conte to ponder on.

MOTIVATION TO SUCCEED:

A major theme of last season that many believe affected the team was that the players lost the motivation to succeed. They were constantly out-foxed and left pants down in every contest. Every draw was celebrated like a win.

This season Conte has instilled belief, passion, confidence and team spirit. The players look revived, re-energised and rejuvenated compared to their jaded and faded looks last season. They play with a hunger that drives them to give their all. They look more in support of their new manager compared to last season’s palpable discord issues that crippled team bond. The question is will Conte’s magic wand wane or shine on? Will the team be consistent in terms of performances and results? Will the team spirit and bond be a honeymoon experience or a blissful marriage for years? However, Conte must continue to motivate the players to succeed against all odds.

Still a true Blue …Cheers!
