Pedro has been a revelation this season, since Conte switched to the 3-4-3 system. The Spaniard is playing the best football of his life, since he came to Stamford Bridge, and his performances keep reminding us of his hay days at Barcelona.
The form of Pedro has kept Chelsea’s player of the year, Willian out of the first 11, and not that Willian has been poor, but Pedro has just been too good — and he deserves to be starting every game, judging by his current form.
However, I still believe that Willian deserves the love and respect of everyone who supports the Blue badge. I’ve seen some comments from Chelsea fans ridiculing Willian, just because Pedro is in form, but this is unfair to someone like Willian. The reason he lost his shirt in the first place is due to the death of his mother, who passed away in September, after battling cancer for 2 years.
The Chelsea number 22 is going through a difficult period of his life now, as we all know the pains of losing someone dear to you. Need I also remind you that some few months ago, the only Chelsea player receiving all the accolades was Willian. Last season, he was our best player and he showed serious commitment to the Chelsea cause; he was ready to give his all and he did just that. While every other player was mediocre or average, Willian was in phenomenal form, and he saved Chelsea a number of times.
Willian is still an important member of the squad, and even though we haven’t missed him in the last 5 games, it still doesn’t mean we won’t need him in the near future. December is coming, and there will be league games every 3 days, fatigue will step in and our title challenge will be given a huge run for its money. We’d need as many strong legs as possible to go through December unscathed, and we’d see the importance of Willian again.
Every real Chelsea fan should give Willian the love and respect he truly deserves.
