Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been in fine form this season and leads the Premier League scoring charts with 9 goals after just 11 games. Chelsea is among the title contenders this season and an in-form Diego Costa has been instrumental with his goals.

Diego Costa arrived Spain’s training camp with a groin injury and has now been ruled out of Spain’s games against England and Macedonia. Former Liverpool player Iago Aspas will replace Costa in the Spanish national team.

Diego Costa has been sent back to London as Chelsea’s medical team fights to ensure the striker is fit again for Chelsea sooner rather than later. The injury is taught to have occurred during Chelsea’s win over Everton.

Diego Costa have had issues with his hamstring over the past two seasons. Even though his latest injury isn’t a recurrence, we definitely can’t rule out a link between his current injury and his past injuries in some capacity.

If Antonio Conte wants to ensure Chelsea competes for the title this season, Costa’s injury should be well-managed and that should mean a rest for the Spanish international against Middlesbrough.

After the international break, Chelsea will play Middlesbrough before hosting London rivals Tottenham and travelling to the Etihad to play Manchester City. While not trying to disrespect Middlesbrough, I believe the game against Middlesbrough is the perfect game to rest Costa so he will be fully fit to play against Tottenham and Manchester City, two big games Chelsea shouldn’t lose.

The game against Middlesbrough is also the perfect game for Michy Batshuayi to make his first Premier League start for Chelsea. The Belgian has shown us this season that he is an able replacement for Diego Costa if needed and I think he should play the game against Middlesbrough while Costa takes a well deserved rest.

It’s important our leading goal scorer is fit to play against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, so a rest for Costa against Middlesbrough looks like the logical thing to do. Having a player like Michy Batshuayi makes the decision even easier.
