Arsenal manager Arsenal Wenger claims Arsenal were in the race for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku while the Belgian was with Belgian side Anderlecht.

“I knew him when he played in Belgium for Anderlecht,” said Wenger.

“He came very early for Chelsea, after that, when a player is at a big London club it’s difficult to get him.”

Romelu Lukaku joined Chelsea as an 18-year-old before he moved to Everton in 2014 for a fee of around £27.5million deal.
