Gary Cahill scored an own goal towards the end of the first half, after a dangerous Jesus Navas cross from the right flank.

Chelsea came out stronger in the second half, and took all 3 points after scoring 3 goals.

The Chelsea defender called the own goal his first in a Chelsea jersey, and hailed the team for showing character to win the game.

Cahill said after the game: “I think that’s my first own-goal,”

“I can’t remember another one. It was unfortunate. We were playing against a very good team and they showed that in the first half. Everybody was saying this would be the big test for us.

“We were 1-0 down but we had to keep doing what we were doing. At 1-0 you’re always in the game and when it went to 1-1 we showed a lot of character. We didn’t play our best football but at times in the second half we were very good.

“We’re not even at Christmas yet but eight wins is encouraging. It was a test which we completed. We’re going home happy and we got the three points.” Said the stand-in captain.
