Chelsea’s defence of the FA Youth Cup began in emphatic fashion at Aldershot yesterday evening, as the Chelsea U18 defeated Cardiff City youth team 5-0.

Jody Morris’s side advance comfortably into the fourth round after goals from Mason Mount, Tariq Uwakwe, Ike Ugbo and Jacob Maddox gave the Blues an emphatic victory on Tuesday evening.

Mason Mount opened the scoring on the 17th minute. Uwakwe made it 2-0 in the 58th minute, finishing off a move he had started with a deft finish at the near post following Grant’s cross. Two minutes later, Ugbo scored the third from the spot, after there was a penalty awarded to the hosts moments later as substitute Connor Davies was penalised for handball in the box after misjudging a high ball in the air.

Maddox made it 4 two minutes after Ugbo’s penalty, before Ugbo scored the fifth goal 3 minutes later.

The action concludes competitive football for the Under-18s for 2016, with a place in the fourth round assured and the league side four points clear at the top of the league. Morris’s side will face a trip to Oldham Athletic or Birmingham City in January.
