It was a good weekend for both the U18 squad and the development squad.
On Friday evening, our development squad won their final league encounter of the calendar year to move fifth in the Premier League 2 table.
Manchester United took the lead early on as Axel Tuanzebe’s header beat goalkeeper Bradley Collins. But goals from Dujon Sterling in the 30th minute, Josimar Quintero in the 52nd minute and substitute Jacob Maddox in the 90th minute secured a Blues win after going a goal down before 20 minutes of play.
For the U18 team, a 3-1 victory against Norwich youth team took them four points clear at the top of the table with a confident victory at Cobham this morning (Saturday).
Harvey St Clair gave Chelsea the lead in the 34th minute with a precise low finish in the box. It was 2-0 to Chelsea at half-time as we took a healthy lead into the interval. Conor Gallagher picked up a loose ball 25 yards out and found the bottom corner as St Clair with another precise low finish.
Tariq Uwakwe fired in a third goal with 20 minutes remaining, a powerful drive that the keeper couldn’t keep out. Norwich then scored a consolation goal late on as Owen Wallis converted from close range following a dangerous free-kick floated in to the back post.
