Kick Off: 19:45 GMT. Wednesday, 14th December, 2016.

Venue: Stadium of Light

Sunderland host Chelsea later tonight, and it promises to be a very interesting game. Both teams are involved in two different fights; while Sunderland are in a relegation scrap, Chelsea are looking to maintain and even extend their lead on top of the table.

After the weekend’s games, Sunderland were rooted in 20th position, with 11 points from 15 games, while Chelsea topped the pile with 37 points from 15 games.

Sunderland have been in good form at home in recent times, as they haven’t lost at the Stadium of Light since a 4-1 defeat against Arsenal. Chelsea enter this game with a winning streak of 9 games, while Sunderland have won 3 and lost 3 of their last 6 games.

Sunderland won Chelsea 3-2 in this fixture last season, and in the last 6 league meetings between the two sides, Chelsea have won 3, Sunderland 2, with 1 ending in a draw.

The Stadium of Light hasn’t been an easy ground for Chelsea in recent times, as Sunderland are currently unbeaten in three home matches against Chelsea in all competitions (W2, D1). However, Sunderland are vying to win three Premier League games in a row at the Stadium of Light for the first time since February 2012, while Chelsea have won 19 of the last 23 Premier League meetings and haven’t lost successive games against Sunderland since March 2001.

Sunderland have a terrible defence, as the Black Cats have kept just one clean sheet in their last 16 Premier League games.

A win for Chelsea would give the Blues five consecutive away matches for the first time since April last year.

My prediction: Sunderland 0 v 2 Chelsea
