We’re just about mid way into the season, and already, we’ve seen some surprise packages as well as records. For instance, if you had predicted that Chelsea would be on an 11 game winning run before this season began, not many would have believed it— so deep was our slump last season. But it’s been a surprise of a season; we’ve managed to turn it all around, and now, we’re the obvious team to beat. Our players are firing on all cylinders and the team is in fine spirit. Speaking of performing players, everybody has contributed immensely to our success this season. From the back to the front, everybody has been great — even players that were below par last season have come back to life, however, of all of them, one has particularly been outstanding for us. Minds will think about Hazard at the thought of this, but as great as he too has been, he’s not the biggest star of the season so far for Chelsea, Diego Costa is.

With 13 goals scored in 17 games this term already, the Spain international is Chelsea’s main threat this season. And it’s not even the numbers that interest me the most, it’s the level of commitment and involvement the man has brought into his game this season. He used to be the traditional striker that waited for the ball to come to him, but he has evolved his game, and gets the ball himself these days. He holds up play, and assists even more than most midfielders. On more occasions than I can recount, Diego Costa has earned us all 3 points in games we probably might have ended up dropping points without him. He scores crucial equalizers and winners, and he seems to be increasing in confidence. That is why I think that he will be missed against Bournemouth, but I’m kinda hopeful whoever fills in his boots can replicate his showings. They’re no doubt mighty boots to fill, but from what we’ve seen from Chelsea this season, anybody can surprise. Costa will be back in the next game against Stoke, and I hope he keeps the momentum going.

So there you have it. Diego Costa is my standout performer in Chelsea this season. Who is yours?

King Jay is a writer/broadcaster with years of experience under his belt. His love affair with Chelsea actually began as a joke, but today, he stands tall as a die-hard blue. What makes him perfect for this blog? He lives for Chelsea FC, in fact, I heard he sat in the middle of a road, and refused to go home after that bitter loss to Barcelona in 2009. Haha.
