Nathan Ake is back in Stamford Bridge, following his half-season loan at Bournemouth, and the 21-year-old will most likely start against Brentford in the FA Cup match today.
It wouldn’t be his first start for Chelsea, as the young Dutchman started in an FA Cup game for Chelsea against Middlesbrough, under former interim manager Rafa Benitez.
Speaking with the official Chelsea website, Ake revealed he was nervous at first, but grew into the game.
“It was my first start for Chelsea,” he says. “I was young, only 18 at the time, and it was a pretty good moment for me. It was when I first felt what it was to be a professional player and it was of course a big experience at the time.
“I played in midfield, together with Ramires, so it was a good game to be involved in and we won 2-0 as well so it was good.
“A lot of people helped me beforehand because I was quite nervous, but when I got on the pitch everyone made me feel normal and said just play your normal game and I thought it went quite well. Then the same year, I was on the bench for the semi-final against Manchester City and that was of course a big occasion to be involved in. I didn’t come on but to be on the bench at Wembley at that time was really good.”
