Who would have thought that Chelsea’s left wing-back Marcos Alonso will be the hero on Saturday evening against Leicester City? He didn’t just win the man-of-the-match award, he also scored a brace and came close to scoring a hat-trick, and was the Blues most lively player.
He’s only the third Chelsea defender to score a brace in the Premier League, and the Spaniard was happy after the game.
“I used to play more forward but in my senior career it is the first time I have scored a brace,” Alonso confirmed after the game against the Foxes.
“I was unlucky not to score again but I am very happy to help the team by scoring goals and I am delighted with the win.
“We played okay in the first half, the manager asked us to give more in the second half and I think the team played very well after the break. We controlled the game and scored another two goals.
“Against a good team, it was important to bounce back from that defeat against Tottenham and the team showed that we are not afraid and we are going to fight for every game.
“There have been a couple of tough weeks after the Tottenham defeat but I think we didn’t play a bad game there and against Leicester, we showed we are still fighting. We have to keep working hard to get another win next week.”
