Chelsea were heavily linked with former Juventus striker Alvaro Morata during the summer. After a good spell in Italy, Real Madrid activated his buyback clause and re-signed Morata for just £23 million. Chelsea were ready to spend more than double that sum to bring the young Spaniard to Stamford Bridge, but Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was unwilling to sell their academy product.
However, things haven’t gone well for Morata in the Spanish capital. He has found game time hard to get this season, and has started just six times in La Liga since returning from Juventus in the summer. Reports say the 24-year-old is thought to be growing increasingly unhappy at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
The Spanish media also believe that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is thought to have been angered by Morata’s attitude, and told the striker: “If we get €60 million (£51 million) you can leave tomorrow,” according to Spanish media outlet Diario Gol.
Conte was highly interested in signing Morata last summer, but will a move for him be really worth it, given his lack of game time?
