It’s the world against Chelsea, Liverpool Legend, Steven Gerrard thunders in his briefing on today’s clash. Here’s more from him:

“…everyone will have a Liverpool shirt on”. “The whole league needs a win for Liverpool,” said Gerrard.

“If you lose the game, that’s game over in terms of title race. I think everyone will have a Liverpool shirt on come Tuesday night because the likes of Tottenham, United, Arsenal, Man City will all be hoping they get that small glimmer of hope and that chance that Liverpool are searching for as well.

“You look at what they’ve given away since the start of the season, 11 points is it? I think they could even improve in the second half of the season.

“They’ve got the experience, they’ve got the winners in the squad. If they were to win at Anfield, I would be very surprised if they didn’t go on and win it.

“It’s almost a last-chance saloon to keep the title race alive”.

Just about a month ago, Liverpool were daring to push Chelsea to their limits, but how time flies and now they find themselves in a position of all or nothing. Here are 3 game tactics that can secure victory for Chelsea:

OVERCOME THE SPIRIT OF ANFIELD:

It’s Chelsea’s title to lose and the battle for league glory will see us at Anfield against an out-of-form Liverpool side that have won just once this year. This game has the look of a thriller and expect the Liverpool supporters to make things hard for us with their jeers and spirited cheers for their team. This is a mental ploy the Chelsea players must overcome if we are to win the game. I certainly think a major reason why we lost to Spurs was because of the vociferous support of the Spurs supporters for their team which overwhelmed us. White Hart Lane is little compared to Anfield in terms of support as surely the Liverpool fans would never want their team to walk alone.

PUT PRESSURE ON LIVERPOOL DEFENCE TO CUT OUT SUPPLY TO THEIR MIDFIELD:

Liverpool love to play it out from the back to start their ‘gengen pressing game’. Having Hazard, Costa and Pedro make direct and channelled runs into spaces can drop the Liverpool highline defence. Also, closing down passes from Liverpool defence to their midfield, especially to Jordan Henderson can disrupt their passing rhythm and cause them to give the ball away with error-prone strayed passes. This will mean making their forward players to drop infield to support their team to try and wrestle possession from our grip, thereby leaving spaces on the wings for wingbacks, Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso to exploit.

BE DEVASTATINGLY RUTHLESS WITH SCORING CHANCES:

This is one match Chelsea must look to score at every given opportunity and Liverpool’s leaky defence might just help us in this regard. We must do a repeat of our ruthless performances against the Manchester clubs at Anfield. Precision, venom, intelligent play and tightrope defence are all important for us to come out victorious. The onus is on us to keep the battle fiercer until the final whistle.

Let’s hope for the best. Cheers!
