It’s time to shout hurray because we’re back to our juicy Premier League action. As we well know, the battle for supremacy will become tougher and fiercer. We should surely expect the good, the bad and the ugly. However, let’s enjoy the games.
It’s Leicester City against Chelsea. On paper, it’s defending champions in battle against title favourites. Both clubs share identical experiences. Over two years ago, while Chelsea romped to the title, Leicester City secured relegation safety by a hair’s breath. The following season saw a reversal as Chelsea struggled and Leicester City won the title. Now, this season has Chelsea top of the league and Leicester City struggling to match their heroic feats of last season. A compelling case of two clubs with bitter-sweet experiences.
As the teams do battle this weekend, much will be at stake. While Leicester City will be looking to continue their resurgence after early occasional season blips, Chelsea will certainly look to have their title ambitions re-echoed after their defeat against Spurs gave shivers. If Chelsea are to emerge victorious, there’s already enough motivation for them. Leicester’s grass to grace story is a reminder of how quickly a club’s fortune can change if they can remain true and committed to a cause especially when the odds are against you. In this regard, we were never thought of as title contenders at the start of the season, so we can take pride in our achievement so far and strive to better it.
In retrospect, last season’s clash at the King Power Stadium confirmed our crisis situation. The acrimony that accompanied the defeat left a bitter taste in our mouth. The players were labelled betrayers by then manager, Jose Mourinho. In the aftermath of that horrible show against Leicester City, José was sacked and things fell apart for us. In hindsight, Conte must look back at that match and know how best to motivate his troops for not just the game against Leicester City, but for the rest of the season. We could suffer pain or enjoy gain if we either discard or collectively learn from the mistakes of their past. There should not be a repeat of the performance and debacle of last season. Conte and Chelsea must regroup and focus to achieve their dream of title glory. Simple, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. That’s exactly what we should do.
Let’s keep our dream alive…Cheers!
