Chelsea boss Antonio Conte believes Ruben Loftus-Cheek is in the best place to develop and he also revealed Loftus-Cheek will have to be patient.

“Ruben stays here because he’s a young player with great potential,” Conte said. “He’s improving a lot and today he has a good chance to play from the start.

“With young players, you must understand the team where they are. Chelsea is a top team and to play here is not easy.

“I remember when I was manager at Juventus, it was the same. They had very good young players but to arrive in the first team and play, you need to make steps and come back.

“It’s very difficult to go straight from the academy to the first team. Ruben has good quality, good characteristics to stay with the first team but he must make this decision (if he wants to go on loan) at the start of the season, not during it.

“In January, are we sure a young player will go on loan and play? No. It’s important to evaluate the situation and make the best decision together.”
