Just ahead of the game against Leicester City, news have broken out of a heated argument between Chelsea forward Diego Costa and manager Antonio Conte.
Conte and Costa had a row over Costa’s fitness concerns, as the Spanish international claimed to be having pains in his lower back region, of which the medical team dismissed his fears, according to reports, and this have gone on to cause a row between the pair that has been in good terms for weeks now.
With China willing to offer Costa huge money and all that, Sky Italia claim that Conte ended the argument by yelling “go to China” at Costa. Costa will miss the game against Leicester City, and I hope it wouldn’t be a blow for the team, as we all know what the in-form striker can offer to the team.
Chelsea are seated top of the table, and 5 points separate Chelsea and second placed Liverpool. The Blues are on course to win the Premier League, but in a league as competitive as the Premier League, 5 points isn’t that much, and the fact we have Liverpool and Arsenal to face in a few weeks time, makes the 5-point gap even a slimmer lead.
The feud between Conte and Costa is an unwelcome development, and it comes at a crucial point of the season, and if care isn’t taken it can lead to something worse — and that could dent our fight for the title.
Title races easily swing hands in the Premier League, and we’ve seen Manchester City relinquish their lead at the top to fighting for a Champions League spot within weeks. It only takes a moment of madness for teams to lose their morale, and if Chelsea must remain on course to win the league, a row between our manager and our top striker is the last thing we need now.
