Chelsea opted to recall Nathan Ake from his loan deal at Bournemouth, cutting short his loan spell with the Cherries, and the 21-year-old will now complete the season at his parent club.
Ake was beginning to impress at Bournemouth before his recall, and it’s believed that the fitness concern of Marcos Alonso prompted Antonio Conte to bring back the young Dutchman.
Standard Sport understands that Alonso has been troubled by a minor leg injury since he joined Chelsea in August.
The left wing-back was signed from Fiorentina for £23million and is believed to have begun his Chelsea career with muscular discomfort in his upper leg.
Standard Sport also reported that the problem has been getting worse, although it has not been severe enough to stop Alonso from playing. But with the rigours of the season and his injury starting to take more of a toll, Chelsea wanted to bring Ake back as cover and open up the possibility of rotating more, thus leading to the recall of Ake.
