It wasn’t an easy Saturday evening for Brentford, as they fell to a 4-0 defeat in the hands of Chelsea.
First-half goals from Willian and Pedro put Chelsea 2-0 ahead, while Branislav Ivanovic and Michy Batshuayi added two more in the second-half.
Brentford manager Dean Smith praised his team after the defeat.
He said: “Certainly after the first 20-25 minutes in the second half we did well. In the first half, Willian sticks one in the top corner.
“A clearance then comes to Chalobah’s shin and they break and score so it was very tough. We dropped deep and made it difficult.
“I wanted them to ask them a question at half time and I felt we did that in the second half. They’re a good, honest, hard-working bunch.
“The difference is the quality of the finishing. We had chances at 2-0 which could have made the game different.
“I didn’t want us to leave with ifs buts and maybes. The third goal from Ivanovic kills the game.”
