Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek was given a rare start in Chelsea’s 4-0 FA Cup victory over Brentford.
The 21-year-old impressed in a more advanced role as part of a roaming front three which included Batshuayi and Willian.
Ex-England international Trevor Sinclair was impressed with the display of Loftus-Cheek against Brentford. Speaking on Match of the Day, Sinclair said: “If that’s what we have to expect from Loftus-Cheek, he’s got a big future.
“He was outstanding, he played in a more forward role in the team and he looked really comfortable and effective.
“He took responsibility on the ball and you think ‘Is this a player who has not played many games for Chelsea?’ He was really confident, moving gracefully and over the ground very well.
“Where he’s improved is with his forward runs off the ball and he was very unlucky not to score. Time and time again, he showed he’s got fantastic feet for a big man.
Sinclair suggests Loftus-Cheek might need to leave Chelsea if he wants to be a star.
“It’s a conundrum. You go away and someone gets injured and you then would’ve had the opportunity (had you stayed). But you could be waiting forever,” Sinclair added.
“He’s not a young man anymore. I think it would be a good option if he could get to a good club and play some football.
“He needs to get experience and feel like the main man because it looks like he’s got the ability to be one.”
Would leaving Chelsea on loan help Loftus-Cheek reach his potential?
