Chelsea attacker Willian broke down in tears as he scored his second goal and Chelsea’s third during Chelsea’s 4-2 win over Stoke City on Saturday.

The goal capped an emotional end to the year for Willian who lost his mum to cancer during the latter stages of 2016.

Willian was comforted by Chelsea striker Diego Costa and Stoke City’s Erik Peters.

“It’s been a difficult time for me. I lost my mum, and it has been very difficult emotionally,” Willian said in December.

“She was a very important person in my life and will always be important to me. After she died, I stayed in Brazil a week.

“Since I came back, slowly I have started to feel better and to feel I can play for the team again. Now I have to think only about the good things and to keep working and keep playing. That’s all I want to do.”

Conte revealed after the game that he was impressed with Willian’s performance against Stoke City.

“I am pleased for Willian,” said Conte following the match. “He played a really good game with and without the ball, he scored two goals and it’s fantastic.”
