Many fans were surprised to see Diego Costa start against Wolves in the FA Cup, while Michy Batshuayi didn’t make the team.

The Chelsea boss has explained his decision.

“If the player deserves to play I am pleased to give them the opportunity, but not because there is sentiment,” explained Conte. “The right way is to give every single player what they deserve.

“Don’t forget our target is to win, not to try to make all the players happy. The right choices are important and, for example, I thought for Diego it was very important to play and to score. For me it was very important to find a new solution with two wingers as wing-backs. It is important to always find the best solution.”

Costa scored the second goal for Chelsea as the Blues laboured to a 2-0 victory against Wolves.
