From having a terrible defence last season, and a shaky defence earlier this season, Antonio Conte’s tactics have finally transformed Chelsea’s defence into one of the best in the league.
The Blues have only conceded 17 goals in the league, and only Tottenham have conceded fewer goals than Chelsea (16) in the 24 league games played so far.
Former England international defender Paul Parker, believes Conte should be praised for using ordinary players (on paper) and turning them into a strong defensive unit.
“Defensively they look weak on paper but haven’t cracked, it’s impressive, and that ego that Chelsea have from winning is keeping them going,” Parker told Eurosport.
“Everyone’s been waiting for one of the cogs to fall off, but they just keep going and going.
“Even the lesser cogs – Marcos Alonso, Victor Moses – they are getting stronger and are still going.”
Chelsea have kept 13 clean sheets this season, and have conceded 17 goals in 24 league games played so far.
