Chelsea signed N’Golo Kante from Leicester City during the summer, and the 25-year-old has been in amazing form for Chelsea ever since.
Arsene Wenger made a bold claim in his pre-match press conference that he tried to sign N’Golo Kante before Chelsea picked him up, and Conte responded to the Arsenal manager’s comments.
He said: “I don’t know about this. But I know for sure that N’Golo was our target and we tried to buy him and yes, we are pleased now to have him in our squad.”
The Chelsea boss went on to reveal how shocked he was with people’s statements that Chelsea are top of the table because of Kante.
“If it is so simple, next season I think that every team will pay £100 million for N’Golo to be sure to win the title,” a smiling Conte said.
“If football is so simple, I will try to keep him for the whole life in Chelsea and we are sure to win the title in every season!
“But first of all, we haven’t won the title this season. I hope this is so at the end of the season and for sure, if it happens it will be a great achievement for N’Golo. But I don’t trust in a team that can win only because of one player. It never happens. Win or lose or draw, it is the team together. I am sure about this.”
