David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Chelsea legend Paulo Ferreira entertained a little crowd of about 300 at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
The trio were team-mates five years ago when we beat Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, with Cahill and David Luiz each overcoming injury to play in the final.
“To play in the final was a bonus. Me and Gary were in the same situation,” David Luiz said. “I trained one day and a half before the final. I was praying just to play. But the penalty, I just tried exactly as in training, I shot and celebrated in front of the Munich supporters. No problem!”
“Possibly after Didier would have been myself,” Cahill added. “That’s got to be the worst place to be in the penalty shootout. But thankfully you didn’t have to see me step up. A fantastic night.”
Ferreira didn’t play the game but watched from the sidelines, and he revealed what the moment was like.
“It was painful. But this one has a wonderful end,” he explained. “After Didier’s penalty it was an explosion of relief. Players were running everywhere, it was unbelievable!”
