Chelsea have been linked with Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, even from his days at Fulham, and former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who scored 88 goals for Chelsea over four seasons at Stamford Bridge, believes Dembele would be a great acquisition for his former club.
Hasselbaink believes the 20-year-old is almost as good as the likes of Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
He said: “He will have to move [to be considered a world-class player].
“I think he is a bracket below [Romelu] Lukaku and Harry Kane at the moment, but he has the potential.
“I know him very well from when he was at Fulham.”
Dembele has scored 29 goals in 41 games for Celtic this season, and Hasselbaink insists Chelsea were right not to have bought him last season, because his career would have stalled.
“I think his agents have done a shrewd job to send him to Celtic to let him play week in week out,” he said.
“To be in a big arena, to have the pressure to win every match. But also for him to get games and to score and to feel that net over and over again – to get in that habit.
“And then to make the bigger move, to go to a bigger club where he is going to be important.
“I think if he had done that from Fulham, going to a Monaco, an Everton or a Chelsea he wouldn’t have played as much.”
