Hoffenheim centre-back Niklas Sule was wanted by both Chelsea and Bayern Munich, but he eventually settled for the German side and would join them at the end of the season.
He has now revealed that he rejected the chance to join Chelsea ahead of Bayern Munich because he wanted to remain in the Bundesliga.
“Both offers came almost simultaneously,” he told TZ.
“Of course it was huge for me that the Premier League leaders showed interest in me, but it felt better to stay in the Bundesliga.
“And Bayern are the top address – there is nothing greater in the world.”
Chelsea reportedly offered £25.9million for the 21-year-old but the defender ended up agreeing to join the German champions at the end of the season.
