West Ham rushed their star striker Andy Carroll back to fitness to play against Chelsea. Prior to the game, the giant forward had scored two in three games against the Blues, and we were expecting another tough duel yet again.
However, Chelsea marshalled the centre-forward perfectly, and it was interesting to note that Carroll lost all his aerial battles in the first-half.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was happy with the way the defenders handled Carroll. “We didn’t concede many chances,” Conte said. “Our central defenders played very well against the long ball for Carroll, we defended very well, good and compact.
“It was a really tough game. I’m pleased with the commitment and mentality of my players. They were very focused. They showed me great will to win the game, and also to suffer in the first part of the first half.”
