Jose Mourinho has again called Chelsea a defensive side who are good on the counter, but Antonio Conte has refuted such claims, revealing that he doesn’t even train his boys to play on the counter, admitting that it comes naturally because of how fast our attackers are.
Conte said : “I have to tell you one thing, not only here but I never, ever, ever train for the counter-attack. Never prepare for the counter-attack. Never. I think the counter-attack is an option, above all if you have this type of player, players who are very, very fast. Also Costa is a counter-attacking man, and Willian and Pedro.
“Sometimes you find teams who force you to defend in your own half, and you have to know how to react in this moment.”
This supports a previous claim made by Eden Hazard that the team doesn’t train to play counter.
About a week ago, Hazard said: “No we haven’t practised (counterattacks) it a lot – we have the players to do that.”
“Me, Pedro and Diego [Costa] are quick on counter-attack.
“We tried to do the best and do the right thing on the ball. It works well.”
