It was a London derby game, and besides being a difficult game, it was a match our title rivals were hoping for us to lose. There was added pressure to this fixture, as Tottenham and Manchester City had both won on Sunday, and Harry Kane added more fuel to the context by publicly backing West Ham to win.

In the end, Chelsea won 2-1 and our lead at the top was preserved.

Speaking after the game, Antonio Conte emphasised on how difficult it was to win a derby game, especially with the tactics deployed by West Ham in the early stage of the game. Conte said: “West Ham started the game very well with great intensity to put pressure on us.

“I watched the game yesterday, Sunderland and City, and it was the same. Sunderland tried to put a lot of pressure on. In this type of game, it is right to manage the situation, above all when you are facing a really strong team like West Ham.

“They tried to put a lot of pressure on us. Don’t forget West Ham Chelsea is a derby and there is great difficulty in these type of games. We were very good to manage the start of the game, then score the goal, and then control the game.”
