Chelsea captain John Terry, was strongly linked with a move to Manchester City back in 2009, and rumours at the time had it that the Blues hero was interested in the massive wages being offered by City.
The Blues skipper has opened the lid on City’s offer, revealing that he used their offer to get a better deal for himself at Chelsea.
On ITV’s show Play To The Whistle, host Holly Willoughby asked him: “You never thought about going to Man City?”
Terry replied: “No never.”
But he added: “Also, what that does to you is at the time you clearly want to stay.
“I met Roman [Abramovich] at the time and told him I want to stay.
“Manchester City had made an offer.
“What it does do is it gives you bargaining power to go in and renegotiate a contract.
“So it gives you a bit of power.”
Indeed in the summer of that year, the centre-half penned a new five-year deal at Stamford Bridge worth £150,000 a week.
