Rumours of Diego Costa departing Stamford Bridge for China have been rife since the turn of the year, and former Liverpool player Danny Murphy believes Chelsea will not miss Costa much if he eventually leaves.
He believes Chelsea have the financial muscle to sign a quality striker that’ll replace the Brazilian-born Spain international.
Speaking to London Evening Standard, the ex-Tottenham and Liverpool midfielder Murphy said:
“If Chelsea sell Diego Costa in the summer, I do not believe the effect would be as drastic as many suggest.
“Costa is a fine player who is having an excellent season. His toughness, work ethic and finishing ability are outstanding.
“Yet such is Chelsea’s financial power and history of success this century, they would simply go and buy another top-class centre-forward, such as Alvaro Morata of Real Madrid.”
