William Gallas left Chelsea for Arsenal in a controversial deal that saw Ashley Cole move the opposite way.

At the time, there were claims that the former France defender refused to play for the club and threatened to score an own goal, and the former Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham player has denied such claims.

But when asked on Sky Sports’ Soccer AM, if the claim was true, Gallas cleared up what happened.

He said: “That was not true.

“I told the club, I like to play with my heart, when I play I give 100 per cent.

“Because we were negotiating my contract, they didn’t want to give me what I want, so I said to them I want to leave.

“It was a very difficult decision to leave Chelsea, they gave me everything.”
