In terms of goalscoring, our stand-in captain Gary Cahill is having the form of his life, and you’d be surprised to find out that this is also Willian’s best season in the Premier League, in terms of goals scored.
Despite having started fewer games this season in the Premier League, Willian’s strike against Stoke is his sixth in the league which is his highest goal tally in the league. He has only started 13 games in the league this season compared to 32 in 2015/16 and 28 in 2014/15. His strike yesterday took him to his best seasonal total for goals in the competition.
The same goes for Gary Cahill who scored the match winner on Saturday. It was his his fourth goal in the Premier League this season which doubles his previous personal best for the Blues, and six goals in all competitions, which is two more than before.
Coincidentally, both Cahill and Willian were scorers the last time we met Stoke, in the 4-2 win on 31st December. While Cahill scored scored the first goal, Willian scored a brace thereafter.
