Gary Cahill was England’s stand-in captain as England lost 1-0 to Germany in an international friendly. England adopted Chelsea’s 3-4-3 system and Cahill looked comfortable and assured playing in the left-hand side of the England’s back three. Cahill will miss England’s World Cup qualifier at home to Lithuania on Sunday due to suspension.
Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas, who is on loan at Championship club Fulham, was in action for his country Czech Republic. Kalas played the second half as Czech defeated Lithunia 3-0 in friendly.
17-year-old Chelsea midfielder Reece James had a memorable debut for England U18s as he provided an assist in their 2-0 victory against Saudi Arabia in Qatar.
Several Chelsea youngsters were involved as England U19s opened their Elite Round qualifying campaign for this summer’s European Championships with a 3-0 against Norway at St George’s Park. 18-year Chelsea youngster Mason Mount scored on his debut after 32 minutes. Jay Dasilva, on loan at Charlton, was captain of the team while Trevor Chalobah (younger brother of Nathaniel Chalobah) and Dujon Sterling (who got an assist) also made the England U19 team.
