Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho criticized referee Michael Oliver for sending off Ander Herrera for consistently fouling Eden Hazard during Chelsea’s 1-0 FA Cup quarter final victory over Manchester United on Monday night.
However, in January 2015 when Jose Mourinho was still manager of Chelsea, he called for Premier League referees to offer Hazard more protection after complaining Hazard suffers too many fouls during games.
“People [are] in love with football in this country; people must be in love with Eden Hazard,” Mourinho said.
“The way, match after match, he’s being punished by opponents and he’s not being protected by referees, maybe one day we won’t have Eden Hazard.
“It’s one, two, three, four, five, 10 aggressive fouls against him. They kick and kick and kick, and the kid resists.
“He’s a very honest guy in the way he plays, but that’s another problem.”
So if Mourinho asked for referees to protect Hazard in 2015 due to constant fouls on the player, why then is he complaining after referee Michael Oliver did exactly that by sending Herrera off for fouling Hazard consistently?
