Till this day, many Chelsea fans are angry with Jose Mourinho for selling Kevin de Bruyne; the Belgian at the time was tipped to be the next big thing, only for Jose Mourinho to sell him to Wolfsburg, and now he’s doing well at rivals, Manchester City.
Mourinho claimed De Bruyne didn’t train hard enough and wasn’t committed to fighting for his shirt on the training pitch, but De Bruyne has always refuted the claims he didn’t put in maximum effort on the training pitch.
He has refuted those claims and even said that he asked for open training sessions to prove himself to the public.
“It is true that he said that in the press, yes,” De Bruyne said of Mourinho’s comments.
“That I wasn’t doing what was needed in training. It was easy to say that because there was no-one to check it – the training sessions were closed to the public. But everyone knows I am not like that.
“I never let anyone put me down. I say what I have to say, with respect of course.
“But at that moment, I couldn’t do anything because he would have said I was lying and afterwards he would have used it.
“Did I ask for training to be done in public? I said it, yes, but not to him personally.”
