Chelsea have several youngsters out on loan across England and the rest of Europe and below is a report on our loan players.
Tammy Abraham has taken the Championship by storm this season with his goals and he continued his brilliant form for Bristol City after scoring his 22nd goal of the season. Abraham was on target as Bristol City beat Huddersfield Town 4-0. Another Chelsea loanee Izzy Brown was part of the Huddersfield Town team that lost to Bristol City.
19-year-old Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori made his first league start for Brighton & Hove Albion but couldn’t stop his team from losing 2-0 away to Leeds United. Christian Atsu was a late sub for Newcastle who drew 0-0 at Birmingham City, who are managed by Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola.
Tomas Kalas was part of a Fulham defence that shipped in 3 goals as his loan club Fulham lost 3-1 to Wolves at Craven Cottage.
Charlie Colkett scored a thunderbolt for his League One loan club Swindon Town in midweek as Swindon lost 4-2 to Sheffield United. Colkett also played full 90 minutes in Swindon Town’s 2-1 loss at Bradford City which leaves them seven points adrift of safety. Fankaty Dabo, also on loan at Swindon Town, played both games after a month-long injury absence.
Jay Dasilva and Jake Clarke-Salter were substitutes for their respective loan clubs Charlton Athletic and Bristol Rovers over the weekend and they were both on the losing side this weekend.
Chelsea young goalkeeper Jamal Blackman, on loan at League Two side Wycombe Wanderers, pulled up some eye catching saves as Wycombe drew 1-1 against Plymouth Argyle and he followed it with a clean sheet against Hartlepool.
Another Chelsea goalkeeper, Nathan Baxter was between the sticks for Solihull Moors as they won 4-1 at North Ferriby United in the National League.
In Europe, Chelsea striker Bertrand Traore scored in Ajax’s win over Copenhagen in midweek to earn the Dutch club their first European quarter-final for 14 years. Traore couldn’t find the net for Ajax over the weekend as they were held Excelsior in the Eredivisie.
Marco Van Ginkel helped his loan club PSV defeat a Vitesse team with Matt Miazga, Lewis Baker and Nathan, all on loan from Chelsea.
Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen continued his good run in front of goal as he scored in Monchengladbach’s 2-2 draw with Schalke 04 in midweek. He was also part of the Monchengladbach team that lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich over the weekend. Mario Pasalic played the final 16 minutes of AC Milan’s 1-0 win over Genoa while Victorien Angban and Jeremie Boga started Granada’s 3-1 defeat at relegation rivals Sporting Gijon.
In Turkey, Kenneth Omeruo played the full game as his loan club Alanyaspor won 3-1 at Bursaspor.
