Atletico Madrid did everything possible to sign Chelsea striker Diego Costa last summer, but Chelsea are a club don’t feel pressured to sell if they are unwilling to sell.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has admitted how much they tried to sign Costa, but failed and had to settle for second choice striking target Kevin Gameiro.

“Atletico tried everything, but in England there is no rescission clause. Diego did his best to come,” Simeone told AS.

“Yes, yes (he wanted to come), I was really looking forward to it.

“We were always transparent with Gameiro in relation to Costa. He knows he was the first choice if Costa did not arrive.”

Diego Costa has scored 17 goals in the Premier League this season, and has been a huge part of Chelsea’s success this campaign.
