We all know by now how difficult our recent games against West Ham have been; so if you’re expecting another stroll in the park for Chelsea on Monday, you need to think again.
However, a win should be the minimum target for the Blues in tomorrow’s derby game.
A closer look at the form table will tell you that Manchester City and Tottenham are our only rivals to the league this season, and both clubs are bent on chasing Chelsea to the last.
While Arsenal and Manchester United (who I don’t consider as threats) dropped points during the weekend, Tottenham beat Everton 3-2 and Manchester City cruised to a 2-0 win against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
Currently, Tottenham are second on the table and are just 7 points off Chelsea, while City are third on the table and are 8 points behind. Anything less than a win will open the title race yet again, and considering the fact that City will have a game at hand, will even pile the pressure on the Blues.
While we thought a draw at Burley wasn’t that bad, a draw at West Ham could potentially reduce the point gap between Chelsea and Manchester City to just six points, which will make the meeting between the two sides next month a very important fixture.
West Ham have been a tough nut to crack for Chelsea in recent times, but anything short of a victory on Monday will put the Blues under pressure, and that’s the last thing we need now.
