Arsene Wenger made a bold step to leave Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez on the bench for the game at Anfield on Saturday after a reported bust-up at training last week. It backfired and Arsenal lost their game against Liverpool.

Antonio Conte dropped Diego Costa after news of a mega-money offer from China in January, and Frank Lampard has bashed Wenger for copying Conte.

“What I find difficult with Arsene Wenger is that he’s not in a position of strength at the minute,” he said on Sky Sports.

“He’s been taking some criticism himself and the team have.

“If you look at how Antonio Conte dealt with Diego Costa earlier this season when there was talk of a problem there.

“They were top of the league so the manager can say stuff, he can deal with issues inside, the other players can get together.

“Can that Arsenal team without him finish in the top four? I’m not sure you can.”
