With each passing day, rumours linking Chilean star Alexis Sanchez with a move to Chelsea get stronger, and it’s easy to see why; he’s a top player, in the prime of his career – and top players want to play for top teams. Apart from that, Arsenal aren’t doing so well at the moment. They haven’t really been at the top for years, and their players and fans are getting agitated. Sanchez happens to be one of them. However, as exciting as the rumours are and as much as most Chelsea fans would like to see the Chilean play in the blue colours, the possibility of that move materialising is quite slim.
Sanchez happens to play for a rival club in the same city, who are always in a tussle for supremacy with Chelsea. I doubt they’d be willing to sell to us. Things are already too bad for them at the moment, and fans appear fed up. I think the Arsenal management know that it’d worsen matters for them to sell their most prized asset to Chelsea. Sanchez wouldn’t mind, of course, but in the end the decision isn’t his to make, as long as he has a binding contract. Even if the Arsenal board were to yield to the player’s desire, I doubt they’d sell him for a decent price. Because they’d want to discourage us from buying their star player, they’d most likely double the amount they acquired him for if we enquired. And of course, Chelsea might be willing to pay a ridiculous sum for a 28-year-old.
Having said these, I am sure we all understand why it’ll be difficult for Chelsea to snap him up; but with a year left on his contract, he’d keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
