It seems Real Madrid are looking to exploit Chelsea’s interest in their second choice striker Alvaro Morata.
Antonio Conte was interested in landing the Spain international last summer, but Real Madrid held on to the 24-year-old after triggering his buyback clause from Juventus.
Madrid want to make a fortune from Morata, as Chelsea have been told it will cost them €70 million to sign the Real Madrid striker this summer, according to reports in Spain.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Chelsea chiefs have been told it will take a club record fee if they are to secure the services of Morata.
This got me thinking – is Morata worth that much?
Indeed, he has proven his quality despite being used sparingly by Zinedine Zidane, as he has scored 15 goals in all competitions for Madrid. But paying over £40 million for a player who barely makes the starting lineup doesn’t in any way make any financial sense, and to think that Real Madrid triggered his release clause of £21.9 million just some months ago makes it all the more disheartening.
I’m a fan of Morata, but anything above £40 million for his services is just a sign of exploitation.
