Sunderland’s relegation status was confirmed after a 1-0 home defeat to Bournemouth, and Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso has paid tribute to his former club.

The Spaniard only played 16 games in a brief loan spell with Sunderland back in 2013/14, but he still has his old club at heart.

He took to twitter to post: “Sad to see @SunderlandAFC going down. No doubt they will bounce back to the @premierleague soon.”

The 26-year-old who signed for Chelsea from Italian clubside Fiorentina is enjoying contrasting fortune with his former club and is set to win the league this season and has had an excellent season so far.
