Cesar Azpilicueta was Chelsea’s number one left-back before Chelsea boss Antonio Conte moved him to the right-side of Chelsea’s back three.
Azpilicueta believes playing more centrally gives you more option to play the ball and different kinds of passes.
“It is true it is a new position and maybe I am getting more touches of the ball in the opposition half,” Azpilicueta told Chelsea’s official website.
“Also I am participating more at the back when the goalkeeper wants to build from the back. With three at the back we try to create superiority there and build the play. Now it is different because when I was playing full-back I was getting more of the ball wide and now it is more central, and sometimes central you have more options to play the ball and different kinds of passes.
“Now I cross less times than before. I am more on the ball in the central positions. Maybe before my job was to create a chance more by crossing the ball but now it is more a case to keeping the ball and trying to create a different type of situation.”
